Frequently Asked Questions

Why buy all natural soaps?

Most store bought large production soaps are made from a vast array of man-made synthetic chemicals and animal by-products.  One recent article reported that a major soap maker decreased the weight of their soap due to the increase cost of tallow (animal fat).   These man-made synthetic soaps are cheap to make and are the result of mass production lines.  The glycerin is taken out the soap that is produced and used for other products.  The result is a soap that strips the skin of its natural oils which produces a dry feel to the skin.

Fox Hill's all natural handmade soaps retain the beneficial glycerin and also have natural superfatting oils that leave the skin feeling cleansed and moisturized.   We carefully select the essential oils that are used to provide an aromatherapy experience that will leave you wanting to take a long hot shower or soak in the tub again and again.

How are Fox Hill's soaps preserved?

We use all natural rosemary oleoresin extract for our soaps.  No synthetic preservatives are used.  Ever.

What ingredients are in your products?

Please see Scents and Ingredients section of our web-site.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are plant derived and are highly concentrated.  They have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties.  We only use natural essential oils for scent in our soaps.  We never use fragrance oils which are made from synthetic ingredients and are "synthetic scents."

Is lye used in your soap?

We use food grade lye or sodium hydroxide in the process of making soap which is known as saponification.  Food grade lye is also used to make pretzels and a southern favorite called hominy (betcha didn't know that!)  Throughout history, sodium hydroxide has been used to make soap.  The oils and lye are mixed in a process that no lye remains in the finished soap.  Our soaps are close to neutral in ph so they are extra gentle to the skin.

Are your products tested on animals?

No animal testing and no animal by-products are used in our products.
